play “A Matter of Husband” has been written by a Hungarian most celebrated
playwright Ferenc Molnar.
The drama “A
Matter of Husband” is about an ordinary woman who has been deceived by an
actress by creating some illusions (à¤्रम/छल).
The famous
actress, through her cunning (धूर्त/ चतुर) words, cheats the ordinary woman and takes advantages
of her innocence (अज्ञान). The ordinary woman gets convinced (विश्वस्त हुनु) on what the famous actress says
because the actress can smartly (चलाखीपूर्वक) act to show unreal things look like
real. The very action of her cheating is similar to the basic function of actor
i.e. to make the audience believe in
illusion.
Main Summary of A Matter of Husband
In the
drama, there are three characters. Two characters are on stage and one is
offstage. Famous actress (Sara) and Earnest Young Woman are onstage because we
find them in the drama. Whereas Young Woman’s husband (Alfred) is offstage for
he doesn’t appear in the drama but we know him.
She has been
waiting her for a long time. The Young Woman looks tensed. she licks her
lips as if her mouth was dry. Her dress is simple. She is wearing normal frock,
hat and furs. In the meantime, the Famous Actress enters.
Then, the
Young Woman requests the Famous Actress to give her husband back to her. The
Famous Actress looks surprised on what she says. She acts as if she doesn’t
know who she is talking about. The Young Woman, then, says that her husband is a
lawyer of her manager. He is the one who is not very tall and wears spectacles.
The Young Woman says that he is a blond man.
After that, the Famous Actress says that she has met him once or twice only just for formal works. The Actress refuses that there is any such relation with her husband. But the Young Woman thinks that the Actress was lying.
The Young Woman urges (विन्ती गर्नु) her to return her husband back because her husband is in love with the Actress. The Famous Actress denies that she has taken the Young Woman’s husband. The Actress tries to clarify (स्पष्ट गर्नु) that there is no any such relation between them. But the Young Woman says that her husband sends her flowers all the time. The Famous Actress rejects (अस्वीकार गर्नु) that she had received any flowers from her husband. Now, the Young Woman talks about the love letter her husband was about to send her. She thinks that the letter justifies the relation between them and she starts crying. She blames the Famous Actress for attracting (आकर्षित गर्नु) her husband due to her impressive (मनमोहक) dresses, cosmetics and wordy sentences written by famous writers.
The Famous
Actress responses her blame as an interesting case and says that she has neither
received any flowers nor letters from her husband.
The Famous
Actress says that her husband is playing a trick on her to revive her interest
in him. The Actress says that it is common for them (actresses) having faced
such situations.
The husbands
intentionally invent a love affair with the actress just to seek attention and
love from their wives.
The Famous
Actress soothes her by telling that her husband is a very cunning lawyer and he
is playing on her fear and jealously to regain the love.
The Famous
Actress, through her skillful acting, makes the Young Woman believe on what she
says. She adds that if her husband had come to her for any help to strengthen (मजबूत बनाउनु) their love, she would help him.
The Famous
Actress advises the Young Woman to ignore (बेवास्ता गर्नु) if she receives letters,
handkerchief, her photograph or anything in his pockets.
The Young
Woman requests the Actress not to tell anything about her meeting to her
husband. The Actress promises she won’t tell.
The Young
Woman thanks the Famous Actress for being dear in spite of her foolishness. The
Young Woman kisses the Actress impetuously (हतारले) and goes out.
Surprisingly, the Young Woman’s husband was hiding in the Actress’s room. The Actress calls to come for her wife has gone. In this way the Famous actress cheats the innocent Young Woman of her innocence and simplicity.
